Star Polyps have many different methods of encrusting substrate. Some are heavy
encrusters and the only way to divide them is to allow them to grow onto neighboring
rock. The specimen in Figure 1 is a loose encruster.

Figure 2 shows removal using a razor blade. I just cut the "skin" right off the rock.
In the case of this cutting, again, I laid the cutting on another rock and it attached
within a week with new growth. In heavier current, I would put a couple dabs of
gel superglue on the bottom side of the "skin" and attach to a rock in that manner.
