Then I used two tri-fold poster board and used black Gorilla Tape to permanently close the fold. Once
I had them shut, I squirt the Liquid Projects in an attachment pattern, and stuck the cork in between
the two panels, one layer thick of cork. Then I took the black Gorilla Tape, and sealed the outsides,
like a binding on a book. You can fold the ends in like gift wrap to make neat corners. Try it
on some cardboard you're recycling to figure out the best way for you before closing the boards.
This made the perfect size for the nails I used (they didn't push through the back) and is very sturdy. To attach the valve, I used the mapleleaf in the earlier picture to pre-punch my holes, before trying to attach the real valves. This really saves some frustration. In fact, I'd make a couple hole punch valves, or use a hammer and pliers. I managed to attach every mussel in our watershed besides the Utterbackia imbecillis, which I can't even get through the sealing process, they're so danged fragile. And what you end up with is something like this: http://www.farmertodd.com/mussels/display/ which makes up the upper back wall. Sorry, couldn't find my pic where I'm holding it. I'll also try and get a leather strap this week or next and finish the mussel hoe idea. |
