Central Tennessee - Labor Day 2009 Welcome to my little web ditty from a recent trip to Central Tennessee and a quick stop at the Green River on the way back. I saw two species I'd not seen before, the spotfin chub (which wasn't amenable to photography for a couple of reasons, one of which was a legal reason :) and the blotchside logperch, Percina burtoni, that you see here on the right. My photos of the logperch didn't turn out as I hoped, but I got a lot of good film of them flipping rocks and so forth. In these pictures tho, you can see two large males squaring off. Man, I wish I'd gotten this in better resolution. Oh well. Still, lots to enjoy. I think the Barren Fork set a new record for ease of photograph. There are so many bloodfins (Etheostoma sanguifluum) packed in there that they're extremely reluctant to surrender thier space. I shot the photos I wanted in about 5 minutes and got the film footage in 3. Nutty. The cherry darter (Etheostoma etnieri) there, however, were another story, and I never managed to get either photographs or film of them. We also got a little bit silly after an encounter with some Amish kids who weren't sure what to make of us in our neoprene and gadgets. We gave them all a little extra treat at the end (look below the favorites). The Galleries |
